When William was younger, he definitely took the motor-skills route of development. He was rolling over (back to stomach) at 3 months, was sitting by 5, was crawling by 7, and was walking by 9. While this was going on, I was being overbearing (ha….) and was concerned that his language development was lagging behind. He was a pretty quiet baby. His pediatrician told us that most babies take one of 2 routes. They either go the motor-skills route or the language route. The pediatrician said that it is normal for a baby to “pick” one of the tracks of development and the other will tend to take a back seat. We were told that eventually the language skills would catch up.
Within the past week, I’d say that he is reallllllly becoming more verbal. He has random words that he’ll say (and I mean random) and then if he isn’t saying something real, he is babbling. He is able to get his point across and communicate to us what he wants. So what are these random words? Hat. Ball. Dada. More (but that comes out ma or mama). Fish (what?!?!). Sock (but he only says the “ck” part of the word…pretty funny…). He also has a pretty good listening vocabulary too. He is able to pick out a specific toy if we ask him to. He’ll also give kisses and high fives when asked. He changes so much every day. And I have to admit…I looking forward to the day that mama takes on a new meaning……. 😉
