The diaper bag. A life saver for moms and dads. It keeps you sane when you’re out and about. Carrying all of baby’s necessities can be hard, but with a well thought out diaper bag, you’re sure to have no hiccups when on the go with your little one.
I know a lot of people who stuff the diaper bag with everrrryyything. And I tried this, thinking…. yeah… the more the better. But when I was out in public and needed something from the diaper bag, searching through a heap of random things caused me to become instantly stressed. Add on top of that a screaming baby who hadn’t mastered patience yet- not a good situation. After a few minutes (what felt like hours) I finally found what I was looking for and my lesson had been learned. I vowed right then and there I was going to redo my diaper bag as soon as I got home!
I walked through the door, handed William over to Wesley and dumped the diaper bag on our living room floor and started fresh. So what made the cut? What’s always in our diaper bag?
A can of formula
We use ready to feed formula with William, so we always have a can in the diaper bag in case we run out while we’re away from home. (We also always pack a fresh bottle right before we leave.)
A baggie of pacis and paci clips
Pacis are William’s one crutch. Because of this, we always keep some on hand. The clips are perfect because they keep his paci from dropping on the floor.
A baggie with gas drops
You never know when a gas pain may attack…and William seems to be fairly susceptible to getting bad gas.
A teether toy
Not only does the toy keep William occupied if he needs some entertaining, he can also chew on it if he needs to.
1 change of clothes, a sleeper, & a hat
Before I had a few outfits in the diaper bag. One is enough. Between the one outfit and the sleeper, we are good to go in case of any wardrobe malfunctions or blowouts.
Kind of speaks for itself…. William is a drooler & an extra bib may help from needing a whole new outfit.
3 diapers, wipes, and diaper rash cream
I had like…..10 diapers in the diaper bag- I mean it is a diaper bag…… but that was ridiculous. They took up too much room and I’d never be out anywhere long enough to need ten diapers. If I was, I’d be going somewhere over night and would need a duffle bag, too.
A small receiving blanket
In case it is cold- I have a blanket. In case we’re at a friend’s house and William wants to get down on the floor- I have a blanket. In case I need to change his diaper and have no diaper changing pad…I have a blanket. This takes up minimal room and is a 3-for-1. Score!
That’s it. They are the staples that are in the bag. And I love it because everything has a place in the bag. I know exactly where to go to get what I need. AND there is nothing just free floating around in the bag. Our JJ Cole bag has a ton of pockets, so everything goes in one. I love being able to open up my bag and see….. space!
